Shells
Soft winds of time
blow within my mind
--and I return once more
to worlds I once knew...
Surf crashes upon a distant shore,
casting shells, empty and broken, upon the sands
--a stark reminder of the pulsing sea of time...
Hungry waves snap at my heels
and consume my wandering imprints
--the sands lie glistening and smooth,
my footprints swallowed as if they'd never been...
Lying in shifting dunes
winds of ocean and salt-tang
spit sand, piece by grainy piece...
--The winds are patient;
once I am gone,
they will fill the tiny valley
my body made...
as if I'd never been...
