Shane, Lisa, and their Critters
Somewhere I have some pictures of Lisa, so as soon as I find them and/or get some rolls of film developed and/or Shane and Lisa bring me some of their pictures, well, then I'll get them scanned and up on this page!
In December of 1995, Mou and I took a week's vacation and drove up to Fort Lewis, Washington, where Shane was stationed.
He served as a mechanic in the motor pool there, and drove some incredibly large machines in equally incredible terraine.
This picture was taken in the parking lot outside of his barracks; it was actually warm that day; 37 degrees fahrenheit.
And yes, if you are wondering, we have gotten quite a few startled and questioning looks when folks see the buzz-cut young man and the long-haired mountain man dad (grinning).
Also at Fort Lewis; Shane's showing me the gigantic engine in his Dodge War Wagon, which he drove off-hours all over the state of Washington - including above the tree line on Mt. Ranier, nearly all the way to the top!
We were having dinner in a restaurant in Seattle when Shane described what it was like to drive his War Wagon nearly to the top of Mt. Rainer; and - considering how many times he's gotten stuck way out in the woods, I was inspired - using the paper place mat, I drew this for him.
This is Lucky, their Pit Bull/Boxer mix - he's an absolute lover, and very friendly with everyone he meets.
Lucky was a stray, and would have been destroyed if we hadn't adopted him. I intended to keep him until I could find a very good home for him -
Lisa - my daughter-in-law - took one look at him and said "Dad, he has a home" (smiling!)
After Shane and Lisa moved to Vallejo, Lucky missed playing with Simba and Shasta...
Shane adopted Sterling, named because of his sterling-silver blue eyes; he's part Pit Bull and Sharpei, and like Lucky, a real friendly dog and lover.
